Breakthrough

Breakthrough is a venture philanthropy programme that provides funding and management support to help established social enterprises scale up and maximise their social impact. Since 2005 Breakthrough has raised £2.5m in grant and £1.7m of in-kind time to support social enterprises in the UK. In that time the portfolio social enterprises have increased their revenue by an annual average of 22% (compared to a sector average of 8%) and grown their social impact by 29%.

Breakthrough was launched in 2005 by CAN with initial partners Permira, the European private equity firm and SVG Capital. Its mission is to take the vision, commitment and drive of social enterprises and support them to grow into sustainable drivers of social change.

Breakthrough has a diverse portfolio of social enterprises and provides intensive management intervention from CAN and its range of private, public and social enterprise partners.
Breakthrough is looking for philanthropists and forward-thinking corporate partners inspired by social enterprise to join the Breakthrough programme.
