CAN Chief Executive wins the Business in the Community Awards for Excellence Marks & Spencer Sieff Award
Adele Blakebrough received the Marks & Spencer Sieff Award - for individuals based in the community who have successfully collaborated with business to benefit society.
The Awards for Excellence were presented at Gala Dinner in the presence of Business in the Community's President, HRH The Prince of Wales, and Former Vice President Al Gore, at the Royal Albert Hall on Monday 2 July 2007. The Gala Dinner was attended by 1,700 people from business, government and NGOs.
On the evening 17 awards were given out - 15 to companies recognising their positive impact in society and two to individuals (one business leader one community leader).
The Marks & Spencer Sieff Award was set up in 2002 to mark the retirement of one of BITC's founding leaders Sir David Sieff.
The Awards for Excellence, now in their tenth year, recognise companies and individuals for integrating responsible business practice into their mainstream operations resulting in a positive impact in the marketplace, environment, community and workplace.
Business in the Community is a unique movement of over 750 companies, with a further 2,000 companies engaged in our programmes and campaigns. BITC supports and challenges companies to integrate responsible business practice into their operations in order to have a positive impact on society and the environment.
Sir David Sieff, Chairman of Judges said: "CAN's partnerships with Permira, and with Sony have enabled a raft of established social enterprises to grow and develop, and shining through these exciting and innovational partnerships is Adele Blakeborough's vision, passion, imagination and inspirational leadership."
